Decimal Twenty Pence

Decimal Twenty Pence
The Twenty Pence has been struck for Elizabeth II since 1982 to present day. There have been so far four different types of Twenty Pence all of which are made of cupro nickel the alloy being 84% copper and 16% nickel, have diameters of 21.40 millimetres and weigh approximately 5.00 grams.

1) Young Head Type
From 1982 to 1984.
OBVERSE - Right facing portrait of a young Elizabeth II designed by Arnold Machin and the inscription "ELIZABETH II" around the top of the coin and "D·G·REG·F·D·" around the bottom of the coin.
REVERSE - Crowned Tudor Rose with the date cut in half and put on either side of the rose designed by William Gardener with the number 20 below the rose and the inscription "TWENTY PENCE".
2) Middle Aged Type
From 1985 to 1997 (1986 as proofs only).
OBVERSE - Right facing portrait of a little older Elizabeth II redesigned by Raphael Maklouf and the inscription "ELIZABETH II" around the top of the coin and "D·G·REG·F·D·" around the bottom of the coin.
3) Old Head Type
From 1998 to 2008.
OBVERSE - Right facing portrait of a much older Elizabeth II redesigned by Ian Rank-Broadly and the inscription "ELIZABETH II" around the top of the coin and "D·G·REG·F·D·" around the bottom of the coin.
4) Old Head Part Shield Reverse Type
From 2008 to now.
REVERSE - A small portion of the Royal Standard Shield designed by Matthew Dent with the inscription "TWENTY PENCE".
